Nigeria has confirmed an Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), involving a woman who recently travelled from Uganda. Health authorities have identified 44 close contacts and commenced contact tracing to prevent further transmission.
Ebola spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people or contaminated materials. The public is advised to practise good hand hygiene, avoid contact with suspected cases' bodily fluids, and follow verified health advisories. Authorities are coordinating surveillance and response efforts.
Nigeria's successful containment of the 2014 Ebola outbreak, which recorded 20 cases, including one probable case, and eight deaths, highlights the importance of early detection and contact tracing. Nigerians are urged to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and follow updates from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
