LASUTH RESIDENT DOCTORS DECLARE INDEFINITE STRIKE OVER UNPAID ALLOWANCES

Resident doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) have declared an indefinite strike over unpaid specialist allowances, salary and advancement arrears, as well as 25 months’ arrears of the revised Professional Allowance Table (PAT). The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), LASUTH, said the strike will begin at 8am on Friday, September 11, 2026.

‎The doctors said the Lagos State Government had paid the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund and implemented the revised professional allowance table, but several welfare issues remained unresolved. They demanded the immediate payment of specialist allowance for Grade Level 14 resident doctors, outstanding salary and advancement arrears, and the 25 months’ PAT arrears, alongside a detailed breakdown of their current salary components.

‎The association said the revised Professional Allowance Table took effect from July 1, 2024, but alleged irregularities in its implementation and delays in settling outstanding payments. Despite acknowledging interventions by state officials and hospital management, the doctors said unresolved issues left them with no option but to withdraw their services, warning that the strike would continue indefinitely until their demands are addressed.
