KANO DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK: 32,633 CASES CONFIRMED, 1,744 DEATHS — KNCDC

Kano State has recorded 39,536 suspected diphtheria cases, of which 32,633 have been confirmed, with 1,744 fatalities since the outbreak began. The disease has affected all 44 local government areas in the state.
The Director-General of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Muhammad Abbas, disclosed the figures on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief. He said 14.5% of confirmed cases had been hospitalised and stressed the need for early reporting and stronger community surveillance.
Abbas called for mass vaccination across the state, urging communities to support efforts to detect and report suspected cases early. He noted that active case searches in rural communities had uncovered additional suspected cases, highlighting the importance of community participation in controlling the outbreak.
