INVESTING IN WOMEN'S HEALTH NOT OPTIONAL, SAYS FG

The Federal Government has declared that investment in womens health is critical to achieving Nigerias $1 trillion economic ambition. Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim made this known at the Her Health, Her Power Conference Africa 2026 in Abuja. Represented by Dr Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, she emphasized that prioritizing women's health is non-negotiable for economic growth.

The government is strengthening institutional structures to promote women's economic empowerment, gender equality, and family development. Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi also urgesq leaders to prioritize women's access to healthcare and education. He cited his administration's establishment of health centers in every village, each staffed with a doctor and two nurses, and payment of N10,000 to women attending antenatal care.

Conference convener Dr Victory Njoku said the initiative would extend beyond discussions through community outreach programs focused on maternal health, reproductive care, mental wellness, and leadership, with plans to expand across Africa.
