The Federal Government is spearheading a major initiative to address the gap between health policies and their implementation across Nigeria. The effort will take centre stage at the 2026 National Health Equity Conference, scheduled for October 13 to 15 in Abuja .
The conference, themed “From Policy to Impact: Care Coordination as the Core Engine of Health Equity,” will bring together policymakers, legislators and healthcare leaders to examine challenges affecting health policy implementation. Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, will serve as Chief Host .
According to the conference organiser, Yemi Ajao, Nigeria has developed several important health policies, but their effectiveness ultimately depends on how well they are implemented and reach communities. Discussions will focus on improving coordination among healthcare professionals, strengthening referral systems and using technology and citizen feedback to improve accountability, particularly in underserved communities.
