65 Nigerians to return from South Africa Wednesday

Following concerns over rising xenophobic discrimination and violence in South Africa, the Federal Government has continued efforts to ensure the safety of Nigerians living in the country. In response to the diplomatic strain, the government, alongside private donors and diplomatic missions, has been coordinating free voluntary flights to help Nigerians who wish to return home safely.
The Federal Government has announced that another batch of 65 Nigerians will return to Nigeria on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the returnees, sponsored by private individuals, will depart the O. R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 3:30 p.m. local time aboard a South African Airways flight.
The returnees are expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 8:45 p.m. the same day. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated the individuals sponsoring the returnees and other stakeholders supporting the evacuation process, while assuring that relevant government agencies would continue coordinating the safe return of Nigerians.
