Nigeria’s D’Tigers suffered a 78–62 defeat to Cameroon in their opening Group E game of the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers on Thursday in Radès, Tunisia. The loss came after Nigeria entered the fourth qualifying window with three consecutive victories and a 4–2 record from the first round.
D’Tigers struggled offensively from the start, trailing 23–14 after the first quarter. Although they matched Cameroon 18–18 in the second period, Nigeria went into halftime 41–32 down and failed to mount a comeback. The result is a setback in Group E, where first-round records carry over to the second phase.
Under FIBA’s qualification system, the top two teams in each group and the best third-placed team will qualify for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar. D’Tigers will have an immediate chance to recover when they face South Sudan on Friday, August 28, at 13:00 local time in Radès.
